CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

In addition to the Regulations published by Cambridge Assessment English (See Regulations), this page lists conditions specific to the registration for an examination with the Cambridge Examinations Centre Hamburg, DE007. Please make sure you read both pages before completing your registration.

  • There are over 2,800 centres in 130 countries around the world. Although all of them are inspected by Cambridge English and meet high standards, many with their own websites, the individual conditions of entry will sometimes vary.
  • The date of your exam must either be published on www.cambridge-hamburg.de or mutually agreed with the Centre Manager, Andreas Grundtvig.
  • We will not confirm your registration before the published Closing Date for Entries. In order to qualify for Early Bird registration you must have sent your details to the centre, as well as transferred the examination fee so that it appears in our account on this day.
  • For organisational reasons, any request for confirmation of receipt of the payment of the examination fee or Entry Form before the Closing Date for Entries will be declined. To be certain that your form has safely reached us, please use the recorded delivery system offered by the German postal authorities (Rückantwortschein).
  • Unless instructed by the Centre Manager do not make any payment to the School office of the Berufliche Schule für Medien und Kommunikation.
  • Do NOT contact the Secretary of the Berufliche Schule für Medien und Kommunikation, or administration of any other school to ask about the details of an exam organised by DE007. They will not be able to help you.
  • You must include any special requests in your Entry Form. Any requests for timetable changes or special needs after the Closing Date for Entries will be declined.
  • If you are taking this examination to satisfy a visa application, e.g. for Australia, please inform the centre by email immediately.
  • The Centre Manager will write to you within three days immediately following the Closing Date for Entries to confirm your registration for the exam as well as giving you details of the venue and suggestions for preparation.
  • If there is not a sufficient number of candidates for an exam on the Closing Date for Entries, the Centre Manager will contact you to arrange a free transfer to an exam at a later date, or a full refund of the fee.
  • About three weeks after the Closing Date for Entries, you will receive an official Confirmation of Entry. Do NOT lose this document. As well as containing a complete timetable for your examination, it also contains secret information about how to access your results. You must save this document very carefully. There is no need to bring it with you on the exam day however.
  • If you are unable to participate in the exam, you must provide a medical certificate (i.e. doctor’s note) to be offered a free transfer to a later date. You must ensure that the centre receives this within seven working days of the examination date. We will then either offer you a transfer to an exam at a later date or a 75% refund. No transfer or refund will be offered if this condition is not met.
  • Do NOT send a photograph with your application. We will take your photograph on the day of your exam using specially designed software, which conforms with the Data Protection Act 1998.
  • Should you be delayed on the day of your exam, you must contact the centre, by sending an email to an SMS text message to +49 (0) 1573 1473844. If you do not do so, you may be denied access to the examination room.  No transfer or refund will be made in this case.
  • If you arrive late you must still be given full instructions before being given access to the examination room. You will not be given extra time for this.
  • If you need to bring mobile phones or any other electronic devices with you on the day of your exam, you must hand them in to us at the beginning of the day, a failure to do this will be treated as malpractice and reported. We will lock your phones and devices away safely until you have completed all tests. We CANNOT accept responsibility for your electronic items, however.
  • Candidates must follow any all instructions given to them by examination staff, regardless of whether these were communicated to you before the exam or not. A failure to do so, or disagreement with these instructions, will be treated as malpractice.
  • There will be short breaks (about ten minutes) between each written paper. This is to allow you to visit the toilet only. You must be supervised during this time and you may not leave the building.
  • There will usually be a longer break until your Speaking Test. Your electronic devices will be returned and you can leave the premises during this time.
  • When Speaking Tests are scheduled to take place on the same day, you must make sure that you keep the afternoon free until you receive your Confirmation of Entry.
  • In cases where candidates are withdrawn before, or where somebody is absent on the day of the exam, the time of your Speaking Test may change. This will usually not be earlier or later than 20 minutes however.
  • Unless instructed otherwise, you will need to arrive a minimum of twenty minutes before the published time of your Speaking Test. This is so that we can register and photograph you, and to allow you to meet and warm up with your partner.
  • In order to ensure absolute fairness, your partner for the speaking test will be chosen at random. Any requests for one particular partner will be declined.
  • Once your Speaking Test is over, we ask you to leave the building immediately, you cannot return to the waiting room to wait for your friends. A failure to comply with this rule will be treated as malpractice.
  • Please remember that the exam papers are not marked locally. Immediately after your exam they will be sent to the United Kingdom where they are marked and checked TWICE. The grade is awarded by Cambridge Assessment English. The local centre has no influence on this grade.
  • The ‘window’ given for publication of the results online is given in your Confirmation of Entry. Please do not ask us to speed up the delivery of the results, there is nothing that we can do.
  • Your results can only be viewed by downloading them using the details given in your Confirmation of Entry. You will NOT receive an email to tell you when they are available. Should you have difficulty viewing them, please try an alternative browser.
  • Should you feel that your score is not a fair assessment, you can apply for either a Clerical Check, a simple recount of all the scores (50 EUR), or a Full Remark of the papers (150 EUR). Please note, however, that all Cambridge Examiners have to undergo strict training and regular assessments to make sure that they conform to the standard set by Cambridge Assessment English worldwide. If there is any inaccuracy during these assessments the examiners will simply not be permitted to examine. Furthermore, Cambridge take careful steps to ensure that the judgement and score is absolutely fair, by having all candidates assessed by two examiners independently. If there is any discrepancy at any stage in marking, it will be noticed immediately. A reassessment of a result could also mean that you will lose the grade that you were initially awarded. If examiners decide that you were awarded too many points the first time around, only the new grade will apply.
  • If you need the result for an application to a university, for example, it is usually sufficient if you send this establishment your downloadable Statement of Result (PDF) or your login details.
  • If you reach the required score you will also receive a certificate. Your certificate will be sent by registered post about one month after your results are published online.
  • If the certificate is returned to our office because you were not home when it was posted to you and then did not collect it from your post office, you can either collect it from us on presentation of a personal identification document. Alternatively we can resend it to you for a charge of 20 EUR.
